The Troyan Monastery is located in a picturesque area surrounded by forests in the Balkan Mountains nearby the town of Troyan. It is the third largest monastery in Bulgaria.

The monument was found in 1600 and later renovated during the years of National Revival between 1830 and 1865. The monastery played a vital role during the years of Ottoman Rule and has a history as complex as the region itself.

The icon of Bogorodica Trojerucica (Three Handed Virgin Mary) is inside the church of the Monastery and according to the legend it is miraculous as it has helped people heal from different diseases.

There are some nice places around the Monastery where you can eat traditional Bulgarian cuisine – and the landscaping is spectacular.
